We’re all rooted in something;
a source to extract and receive nourishment,
thirsty souls seeking their fill.
The question is, where are you rooted?
And what are you drinking in?
Because, ultimately, we are what we eat.
Our actions entwined, cause and effect,
and what we put in is what we get out.
If you’re seeking your fill from the world,
a bottomless pit to be consumed hand to mouth;
hand to mouth of porn, propaganda, fake news,
alcohol, sex, drugs, scandal,
your appetite will never be satisfied.
And, trust me, it will take its toll eventually.
When we root ourselves in God above,
instead of gorging on a substitute for His love,
we find the real deal.
A real deal that includes Jesus dying on the cross
and an endless grace so deep,
that it will never make sense,
just how much He loves us.
This is not saying that tough times won’t come,
I’m being honest, I’m being real,
storm clouds do descend.
But, rather, there’s a promise that He won’t leave us.
He’s going nowhere.
He promises rest,
that His yolk is light,
His strength is our strength,
and that His peace is just an ask away.
Now, tell me.
Where are you rooted?
In the love of the Lord or the world’s decay?
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
