There are so many inspiring quotes about courage out there, you just need to scroll through social media on any given day to find one (or many). But there is something so radically and powerfully different when you hear the actual whisper to yourself, from the very heart of Heaven.
A whisper from Heaven that gives a peace that passes all human understanding. That, even in the midst of chaos and pain, He IS close and He cares for you.
The whisper that calms the raging seas and gives us eyes to see what He sees, ears to hear what He is actually saying, above the storms and the circumstances and the negative reports and the challenging relationships.
That sweet, close, intimate voice.
They are the whispers that change you, from the inside out.
One of my all-time favourite storybooks is the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis.
It is one of those books that I read on a regular basis, that always takes me back to the fantastical heart of God through the adventure, the journey, and the beauty of the unravelling story.
They transport me; I sense Heaven on Earth and the Father heart of God so beautifully as I dive into each story.
There is a quote from the Voyage of the Dawn Treader that says,
“But no one except Lucy knew that as it circled the mast it had whispered to her, ‘Courage, dear heart,’ and the voice, she felt sure, was Aslan’s, and with the voice a delicious smell breathed in her face.”
Lucy sensed comfort and safety, and that peace that we can’t understand, when she heard the whisper, ‘Courage, dear heart.’
It didn’t make sense, based on her circumstances, but it was real nonetheless. Despite the circumstances and, in fact, perhaps because of the circumstances.
She needed peace and it came, in a whisper.
I don’t know you or the journey that you are currently on or the challenges that you might be facing or will one day face (life, right?)
But, I do know this: there is a voice in Heaven longing to whisper to you, ‘Courage, dear heart.’
We read it in Deuteronomy 31:6 like this:
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.
Friend, He sees you and He knows you and He loves you.
And, He’s got you covered. Always. Yes, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
Just as He promises to never leave you or forsake you, He will also give you the strength and good courage that you will need to not be afraid; to bravely face each challenge as it comes, to step out and speak up, yes – even if your voice is shaking.
A few weeks ago, I had a minor car accident that resulted in whiplash and subsequent headaches.
It has been a long, challenging, and often dark journey.
As I wept, prayed, had tantrums, and shook my fist at Him demanding answers, He stayed close. He showed patience and kindness and reminded me that He would turn it all around for good and, in the process, He would give me strength and courage to face each day.
Because of that generous kindness, my faith has grown.
Through the process, through the battle, through the journey.
I have needed courage.
I have needed to remember that I am loved by Him and that He calls me “dear heart”.
I am not all the way through the healing yet, but I am healing my way to wholeness and His presence and His kindness are giving me the strength and courage required to face each day as it comes.
I stand on His promises to bind up every wound and trust His tender voice to lead me through.
So, today, I am writing this to speak truth and courage to you, too.
Friend, He loves us. Always.
What is He whispering to you today?
I dare you to create time and space to be still, wait, and listen.
He longs to whisper to you…
